Erdington’s well–supported Don Broadhurst, sponsored by Nelson Recruitment Services, won the first title of his comeback by outpointing Louis Norman in a gruelling ten-rounder. Judges awarded Broadhurst a split decision victory in an absorbing clash for the vacant English super-flyweight title. After an edgy first few rounds ‘The Don’ adjusted to the tempo of the fight as he picked his opponent off.
The 31-year-old former Commonwealth champion controlled the middle rounds and hung on during a testing final session.
In truth, it was a contest that could have gone either way and a rematch with the Leicester fighter would be welcome. The pair had fought a draw in their first meeting in 2014.
